When we logged into FilkNet org in need of cheer and chat We didn't know that that's where all the filkers hung their hat We came to trade our porno and set up a warez site The filkers all were techies and they knew the way to fight Now we're banned from FilkNet, every one Banned from FilkNet 'cause the admin just want fun They won't put up with all the junk that ruined IRC And that is just the way it's gonna be Rob Wynne
FilkNet is intended to be a fun network, and on the whole we'd rather not have a long list of thou-shalt-not's. However, experience adminning and using other networks suggests that some rules are necessary in order to allow us to deal swiftly with unwelcome outsiders.
Be aware that FilkNet is not a democracy. It's a benevolent dictatorship. B-)
These rules are as follows:
/kill-ed.
The reason? IRCing on an insecure SOCKS proxy is a woefully common cracker trick:
if you are a legitimate user, it's in your interest to secure your proxy anyway, so
crackers and other kiddies can't misuse your machine. [This scan will originate from
sotalin.altrion.org, targetted at port 1080 on your machine: it is NOT a breakin
attempt, merely a security measure.] If you need to learn how to secure your system,
ask the admin.
/msg or
/notice, you will be /kill-ed, and /kline-ed for
any repeat offence.
